Welcome to Doggy Haven
At Doggy Haven, our Rough Collie and Old Time Scotch Collie puppies are well bred, healthy, and loved, ready to make happy families even happier!
Located in NW Oregon.
Originally used as herding dogs in Scotland and Northern England, Rough Collies are a beautiful and amazing breed.Well known for their intelligence and ease of training, the most famous Rough Collie personality trait is devotion to their owner followed by their love for children. Those basic characteristics made the Rough Collie dog the perfect breed to star as Lassie, the beloved family TV show pup that always came to the rescue of her little boy, Timmy.
Rough Collies are well known for their protecting and herding abilities. They are strong, loyal, affectionate, responsive, and fast. The rough-coated collie has a beautiful long coat that flows as he runs, and his head is a smooth and elegant wedge shape. Rough Collies are also calm and are a desirable breed for families with kids of all ages.
We are also so excited to now be raising Old Time Scotch Collies, the original farm collie and ancestor of the modern Rough Collie. Back around 1900, the Scotch Collie was one of the most sought after dogs around, valued by farmers for their herding ability and just as loved by city families for their intelligence and loyalty.
As the century went on, the rise of show dogs and the decline of small family farms led to a steep decline in the breed, and only in the 1980s and 1990s did a small group of dedicated people begin working to find and preserve the remaining dogs. Today only a small population remains, and we are proud to be part of the effort to preserve and grow this remarkable breed.
While Rough Collies are often admired for their show ring elegance, Scotch Collies are bred for raw working ability, with a broader head, a well defined stop, and a more moderate coat. Steady, bold, and quick to learn, Scotch Collies are biddable, versatile, and deeply devoted, making them wonderful partners for active families, farms, and even service work.
Whether you are drawn to the elegant grace of a Rough Collie or the hardy, all around heart of an Old Time Scotch Collie, every puppy raised at Doggy Haven comes from health tested parents and is showered with love right from the start.
